Bird Nail Art

Waiting for inspiration to strike as I look through my stamping plates, and then an image of a bird... and I thought to myself, I can do something with that. So after I selected my image I grabbed a bunch of random polishes, not really knowing what I wanted to use yet, and set to work. At no point during this nail art session did I have a plan in mind of what I wanted the end product to look like. Some times I enjoy working this way, you never know what you might end up with. Other times I like to have a plan or an image in my head of what I'm doing, this was not one of those times. The product that I ended up using are: Creative Shop 27 stamping plate, "Sky" by Picture Polish, "London Eye" by Polished London, "Don't Pretzel My Buttons" by O.P.I., "Jade Is The New Black" by O.P.I., "I Saw... U Saw... We Saw... Warsaw" by O.P.I., "Just A Little Rosti At This" by O.P.I., and multi-chrome flakies from Whats Up Nails.

Miss Priss 2nd Birthday

Yesterday was my indie brand's second birthday! I can't believe it has already been two years since I started selling my polish creations. To celebrate this momentous occasion I have created a special birthday polish which I call "Birthday Cake!" When creating this polish I was feeling the vibes of a little girls second birthday. The result was this pretty pink crelly polish with hot pink, dark purple, and turquoise green matte hex glitters.

I love this cute polish that I created, but the celebrations don't end there! I am also having a sale in my Etsy shop so that everyone can enjoy the savings and celebrate with me! Use the code 2BDAY to get 20% off all orders over $20. I don't plan on ending the celebrations there, I plan on keeping it going all month long! Keep an eye out for other offers, discounts, and competitions!

The Magical Wonders Collection by Miss Priss Polish

The Miss Priss July collection is here! This month we dive into the world of witches and magical powers. I was inspired by watching season three of American Horror Story on Netflix. Each season of American Horror Story has a different story line. Season three is Coven, and is about a group of young witches discovering their powers and fighting for their surviving culture.  I never really thought about the specific powers of witches so as I watched the season it was fascinating to find out about the different magical powers. I did some additional research and thought that it would make a really awesome theme for a new polish collection!

Telekinesis - The ability to manipulate objects with the power of the mind. This is a blue polish with a blue-purple shifting shimmer.

Divination - The ability to obtain direct knowledge about an object, person, location or physical even through means other than the user's physical senses. This is a purple polish with a red-gold shifting shimmer.

Transmutation - The ability to move instantaneously from one location to another without physically occupying the space in between. Also known as teleportation. This is a green polish with a blue-green shifting shimmer.

Vitalum Vitalis - The balancing of the scales between one life force and another. With this power witches can transfer their own life force to the dead, bringing another back from the brink of death. This power can also drain life from another.  This is a black based polish, but it has a really strong blue-purple shifting shimmer.

Descensum - Descent into the afterlife, projecting themselves into their own hell. The hard part is bring one's self back to the world of the living. This is a pearly white polish with a subtle blue shifting shimmer.

For each of my swatches I used two coats and no top coat. Unfortunately, it was difficult to capture the colour shift of each polish, but they are super pretty!

This collection is now available in my Etsy shop.

Emily de Molly Swatches

After my Indie Con haul I had the tough choice of deciding which polishes I was going to try first... It had to be Emily de Molly! I got five polishes at Indie Con, along with some super pretty glitters which I also had to test out.

Geode Mine - A light brown holographic polish with blue multichrome flakies. What originally caught my eye was the flakies in this polish, that's why I ended up buying it, and I was not disappointed!

Hybird Theory - A light blue strong holographic polish with green to copper multichrome flakies. Again, I was drawn to the flakies in this polish, and I knew it would have an amazing holographic shimmer in direct sunlight in true Emily de Molly style!!!

It's Sunday Somewhere - A light pink polish with a gold shimmer and fuchsia, silver and iridescent glitters. I've really been liking the softer shade of pink recently, and I thought my mum would like this one too... Aren't I such a good daughter?!

Sweet Jumps - An almost nude holo with bronze/gold flakies. It also has turquoise, fuchsia, and copper glitter. I found the overall colour of this polish was almost pink, yet still not, so I like it. I especially like the fuchsia and turquoise dot glitters!

Water Balance - A blue leaning green with gold to green shifting shimmer. So this polish was actually picked out by my mum! Which is weird, because she pretty much only ever wears soft pinks/purples. Don't get me wrong, it is an AMAZING colour, the weird thing is that I brought it for my mum.

I also got some pretty glitters! I got multi iridescent flakes, holographic pigment, holographic flakes, and mermaid glitter. I was really excited to try these, so I experimented by layering them over the top of "I saw... You saw... We Saw... Warsaw" by O.P.I. I chose this colour because it is a nice dark base colour, without being boring black. I figured a dark base colour would give a nice contrast, especially with the iridescent flakes and glitter.

Lighting: Inside with light

On my pointer finer I tried the holographic flakes. They are super metallic and reflective with a large range of sizes. I dabbed some onto my nail while the polish was still tacky using an eye shadow applicator sponge. I think I had too much on the applicator and that less on the nail would look better, less overwhelming maybe? Next time I will try less flakes and see how that turns out. Onto my middle finger, the multi flakes. I was surprised at how many large flakes there were in the jar but the colours in these flakes are amazing, especially over the dark base! I applied these the same way that as the holo flakes.  Next, my ring finger with the holographic pigment. I found that this pigment didn't really rub onto the dried polish like some of the other pigments I have tried. So I added a top coat and dabbed some on with an eye shadow applicator while the top coat was tacky. This made the pigment really opaque and pretty much covered the dark blue base. I think I'll need to work on my application of this one. Lucky last, and surprisingly my favourite, the mermaid glitter! I applied this to my nail the same way as the others, over the top of tacky polish with an eye shadow applicator. Sealing this glitter in with a top coat changed how it looked (unlike the others where the top coat made little or no difference to their appearance). Before the top coat you could see the white of the glitter, but the top coat made it more translucent, highlighting the iridescent green shimmer.

Now to decide what polishes I am going to try next!
