Solar System Nails

Just a quick post tonight. I'm not too happy with how these turned out, but I still love the idea behind it.
I love doing galaxy nails and I loved this variation of it.
These were inspired by The Nailasaurus, when I saw these I knew I had to try it.

Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune (and no Pluto, sorry Pluto).

I used acrylic paint for the planets. For my base I used black polish, then I sponged a dark blue shimmer polish over the top (unfortunately this didn't show up in the picture). This was surprisingly hard to photograph, so this is the best photo I've  got.

That's it for tonight, will probably have some more swatches up tomorrow.

Dream Catcher

Recently one of my friends inspired me to do dream catcher nails.

I had done dream catcher nails once before and thought it was time to give it another go.

So I thought I would include my last dream catcher nail design along with my newest one.

My first attempt at dream catcher nails I am still actually quite proud of, that's kind of why I wanted to include them in this post. I think I did these ones at the beginning of the year, probably in early January.

First dream catcher nails from January.

I wanted to try something a bit different this time around, this is what I came up with ...

My recent dream catcher nails.

I kind of like them. I feel its been ages since I have done any nail art. I've been doing heaps of swatches recently so I am a bit rusty with my nail art at the moment.

For both dream catcher designs I used acrylic paint because I find it easier to work with and doesn't dry as quickly as polish.

Glam Polish

Today I have some swatches of five different polishes by Glam Polish. These polishes are even more amazing than I expected them to be! I may have found a new favorite indie brand!

First up is "Blibber Blubber." This one has heaps of neon glitter in a white jelly base, and it is absolutely perfect! I stood the bottle upside down for a bit before using it and had no problems with getting the larger bits of glitter.

Three coats of "Blibber Blubber" with a top coat.

I like it much better with the matte top coat...

"Blibber Blubber" with a matte top coat.

Of course, I had to include a marco! Look at all the pretty neon glitters!

Next is "Energizer Bunny." This one has different size pink, silver, and blue dots in a pink base. It is so cute and girly.

Three thin coats of "Energizer Bunny" with a top coat.
And again with the matte top coat and macro...

I love my mint coloured polishes and this one is perfect. "Peppermint Patty" has silver and blue dots as well as a few hearts in a minty base.

Generally I don't like yellow polishes but this one is so cute. I love the dot glitter, it's a nice change from the popular hex glitter. "Brite" has a rainbow of glitters in a yellow base.

Three thin coats of "Brite" with a top coat.

I got the last one mostly because of the name: "Big Bang Theory." This one is named after the T.V. show, which is currently a favorite of mine. The polish has dot glitters of different colours and sizes in a clear base.

With a matte top coat.

I may have gone a bit crazy with the matte top coat, but I think they look so much cooler with the matte top coat! :)

All these polishes are amazing. I've already put in my next order and it should be arriving any day now, can't wait!

Harry Potter + Nail Polish = AWESOME!

How could you go wrong with Harry Potter themed nail polish?
It's simple math: Harry Potter + Nail Polish = AWESOME!

As soon as I saw the Magical World Collection by Alanna Renee I knew I needed it in my life (like I need almost every other polish in my life)! I love how the polishes really fitted in with the books and movies.

First up is "Hedwig" named after the white owl Harry Potter got his first year.

Two coats of "Hedwig" with a top coat.

I like this one as it really does remind me of Harry's owl Hedwig. This one has tiny white, yellow and black glitters as well as white bar glitters in a white base. I deiced to include macro bottle shots of the polish so that you can see all the pretty glitters in it!

Macro of "Hedwig"

Next up is "Patronus." The Patronus charm is a positive energy normally used as a defense against Dementors.

Two coats of "Patronus" with a top coat.

I was expecting this one to be a bit lighter and brighter, but in real life it it actually quite grey. However, it does have a pretty shimmer to it.  You can kind of see the shimmer and flakes in the Macro.

Macro of "Patronus."

"Draught of Peace" is named after a potion used to relieve anxiety.

Two coats of "Draught of Peace" with a top coat.

I was expecting this one to be more of a light/bright turquoise, but in real life it is actually a bit darker and dustier in colour. It does have a beautiful silver shimmer to it though.

Macro of "Draught of Peace" - the black specks are actually silver.

"Chocolate Frog" is inspired by the dark blue packaging. When opened the chocolate frog jumps around, but it is the card of the famous witch or wizard inside that you really want!    :)

Three coats of "Chocolate Frog" with a top coat.

This one was packed with different glitters in a blue jelly base. It took a bit of careful application because of all the glitter, but it was totally worth it! No fishing for glitter at all!

Macro of "Chocolate Frog."

"Avada Kedavra" is a spell that causes instant death and is one of the three unforgivable curses. Harry Potter was the first ever wizard to survive the curse.

Four thin coats of "Avada Kedavra" with a top coat.

OMG! This green is phenomenal! Such a bright electric jelly green packed with small and medium white glitters.

Macro of "Avada Kedavra."

Next up is "Dink of Despair." This polish was inspired by a potion that causes extreme fear.

Four thin coats of "Drink of Despair" with a top coat.

This is such a perfect and sparkly emerald green. Generally I'm not a big fan of green polishes, but the two in this collection are amazing colours with great formulas.

Macro of "Drink of Despair."

Next is my favorite from the whole collection, "Horcrux." A Horcrux is an object in which a dark witch or wizard hides a fragment of their soul. By hiding a part of their soul in an object a witch or wizard can resurrect them self if their body has been destroyed.

Two coats of "Horcrux" with a top coat.

The flakes and shimmers in the polish as absolutely beautiful! This polish has green/blue and silver flakes in a black base, and application is smooth too!

Macro of "Horcrux."

The polish "Dementor" is inspired by the dark creatures that feed of people's happiness. The Dementors can even consume a person's soul.

Two coats of "Dementor" with a top coat.

This polish is packed with different sized silver glitters in a black base. So much glitter! I couldn't even get a good picture of this one as all the light was reflecting off the silver glitters.

Macro of "Dementor."

My second favorite from the Magical World Collection is "Fawkes" named after Dumbledore's phoenix. Phoenixes burst into flames and then are reborn from the ashes. They can carry extremely heavy loads and their tears have healing powers.

Three coats of "Fawkes" and a top coat.

Now this is what I call a glitter bomb!! Heaps of different red and gold glitters packed into a thin red jelly base. Sadly I really couldn't capture this one, so my photo doesn't do it justice. I blame the light reflecting off all the amazing glitter!

Macro of "Fawkes."

"Stupefy" is named after a spell that leaves the victim unconscious.

Three coats of "Stupefy" with a top coat.

I love this pink, its so bright! This one is packed with different sized white glitters in a bright pink jelly base, with a great formula for smooth application.

Macro of "Stupefy."

"Butterbeer" is named after a popular beverage in the wizard world.

Three coats of "Butterbeer" with a top coat.

This one is similar to "Avada Kedavra" and "Stupefy" as it has a very similar formula with with different sized white glitters in a bright jelly base. I love how the tiny white glitters in this one remind me of froth on top of a yummy Butterbeer.  :)

Macro of "Butterbeer."

Last one!! "Golden Snitch" inspired by one of the balls from the wizard game Quidditch. It is the seeker's job to fly around on their broom stick and catch the tiny snitch.

Three coats of "Golden Snitch" with a top coat.
Yet another glitter bomb in this collection! This golden glittery polish is packed with different sized gold glitters.

Macro of "Golden Snitch."

I love this collection.
Harry Potter + Nail Polish = AWESOME!
Overall I am most impressed that none of the polishes in this collection required fishing for glitter!

Galaxy nails

One of my all time favorite things to do is galaxy nails!

My first few attempts were total nail fails, but then i finally ended up with a result I was happy with.

First galaxy nails I was happy with! (These were done a quite few months ago)

So after those successful galaxy nails a few months later I decided that I would use some different colours to see what happened ...

Let there be PINK GALAXY NAILS!!!  (Also done a few months ago)

Again this got me thinking, "what other colours can I do galaxy nails with?"

Pastel blue and purple galaxy nails! (I did these a week ago)

I have no idea how I came up with the idea to use pastel blue and purple to do galaxy nails but I LOVE THEM! These ones are by far my favorite, I couldn't stop staring at my nails, and I left them on for two whole days!!!

So let me know what you think, what colours should I try next?    :)

Ulta3 Swatches

I got a heap of new Ulta3 polishes the other day, so I spent most of the weekend swatching! I was really impressed with a lot of the new polishes that had come out. Seems like Ulta3 is really stepping up their game. The colours were amazing with perfect application.

"Triple Threat"
This one is gorgeous both in the bottle and on the nail. The tiny glitters in the black base were just perfect, and looks amazing when the light reflects off it.

Two coats of "Triple Threat" with a top coat.

I was surprised how much I liked this one when it was on. The colour and shine was amazing and I couldn't stop looking at my nails!

Two coats of "Infamous" with a top coat.

This is a gorgeous metallic purple.

Two coats of "Celebutant" with a top coat.

This one was another one that I was surprised with. It would be perfect to layer over almost any colour. I decided to try it over black first and I couldn't stop looking at my nails.

One coat of "Xoxo" over black with a top coat.

This one kind of reminded me of a sparkly mermaid!

Three coats of "Striking" with a top coat.

This beauty has small and medium purple glitters in a clear base. I am so glad that Ulta3 added this to their collection of glitter polishes. It is the perfect shade of purple glitter!

One coat of "Gossip" over white with a top coat.

The last few times I had seen this particular colour I was tempted to get it, but for no particular reason I never did got it... Until now! The colour looks a bit darker in the bottle, and it is fairly bright on the nail, but my camera makes it look a fair bit brighter too. It is such an awesome colour with a great formula, it was opaque in almost one coat!

Two coats of "Watermelon" with a top coat.

"Stop the Press"
I am so glad that Ulta3 came out with this one! I had been looking for a black and white glitter topper that wasn't going to cost a small fortune. This one is perfect! An instant favorite!

Two coats of "Stop the Press" over "Watermelon" with a top coat.

Ok, enough Ulta3 swatches for now!
